From Delhi by train  ( Delhi Main Railway Station) Ranikhet Express leaving Delhi main at 11.00 p.m.(please check departure time)  reaches Haldwani at 5.45 a.m. next morning, and the last railhead Kathgodam at 6.15 a.m. from Haldwani Railway Station to bus Stand is 5/6 minutes Rickshaw ride, from where one can get buses for, Dharchula Kwiti, Nachni, Berinag. These buses will off load you right at "Uttarayan" gate or one can get dropped near Tripuradevi Mandir from where one walks back for 4/5 minutes to " Uttatayan" .  

There are buses which leave Haldwani for Gangolighat, Chormunia, Pithoragarh via Gangolohat, will off load you at Raiagar. " Uttarayan" is just 1 Km/20 minutes by walking or Rs.3/- by sharing jeep per person. There jeeps generally go to Berinag. There is a bus which goes to Munshiyari from ISBT (Anand Vihar) but will off load you at Udiyari Bend. This place is 16 Km from " Uttarayan". One can get a jeep on sharing basis. Now there are jeep/Sumo operating as share taxi. Apply Rs. 140/- from Haldwani to Uttarayan.

At Haldwani one can hire, Hard top jeeps, sumo, Maruti Van and Cars as taxi. The rates are negotiable. There are direct buses of Uttaranchal Roadways for Dharchula, Kwiti, Nachni leaving ISBT, Anand Vihar between 1.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and put one at " Uttarayan" gate next day morning between 9.00 a.m./10.30 a.m. (depending on road condition in the hills.)

Guests who love driving/biking can take one of these 3 routes to "Uttarayan"

Route 1. Via Almora, Kausani; 261 Km.

Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Bhowali, Khairna, Almora, Kausani, Bageshwar, Chaukori, Berinag, Tripuradevi (Uttarayan) 261 Km. at an advisable speed @ 35 Km. will take approximately 7^1/2 hrs.

Route 2. Via Almora, Takula; 218 Km.

Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Bhowali, Almora, Takula, Bageshwar, Chaukori, Berinag, Tripuradevi, (Uttarayan). 218 Km. at an advisable speed @ 35 Km. will take approximately 6 hrs.

Route 3. Via Almora, Sheraghat 190 Km.

Haldwani, Kathgodam, Bhimtal, Bhowali, Khairna, Almora, Barechinna, Dholchinna, Sheraghat (along river saryu; Payment of Vehicle Toll Tax on the bridge) Raiagar take a sharp left turn to "Uttarayan" which is just 1 Km. away. 190 Km at an advisable speed @ 35 Km. will take approximately 5^1/2 hrs.

Safe advisable speed is recommended on the hills as the steep climb and blind hairpin bends are too many and dangerous. Vehicle should be kept under control.

It is advised again to carry extra jerry can ( min 20 ltrs.) to carry either unleaded petrol/diesel from Haldwani. Unleaded petrol is scarce in the hills. Though there are petrol/diesel pumps at almora, Thal, Pithoragarh, Lohaghat, Champawat, Tanakpur, Bageshwar, Baijnath & Berinag, which are at quite a distance from each other and from "Uttarayan".

Before making a motor journey, do get your vehicle thoroughly checked, brakes, fan belt, engine oil, oil filter, petrol/diesel filters, carburetors, condition of battery and alternator should be perfect. Do not overload your vehicle.

Do travel light, Since the hills are clear and free of pollution clothes don't get dirty very soon.
